Meet the Uganda 2015 Team! – Columbia and PSU Chapters

Our Project & Goals:

The Project Team this year from the Columbia University and Penn State University chapters have started our project in Uganda. Over six weeks, we will be working with Community Concerns Uganda, a grassroots-based local NGO, with educating local schools and villages on health, hygiene, and sanitation. Our goals include installing 100 mosquito nets, building 6-8 dish drying racks, and teaching health education at 20 schools. We will be using this blog for updates on our project.

Meet our 2015 Project Team:

Jinny Soo (Columbia University)

My name is Jinny Yoo and I recently graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. Although I will be starting management consulting work in August, I’ve always been interested in working for a nonprofit that focuses on sustainable development work within its local community. And Africa has always been a region of great interest to me. Therefore, the opportunity to work with Community Concerns Uganda couldn’t have come at a better time in helping me determine if this is the line of work I want to be involved with in the (hopefully near) future!

Karen Lopez (Columbia University)

My name is Karen Lopez currently a rising sophomore at Columbia University. I’m considering majoring in Economics and pursuing Public Health. I think it’s important to be exposed to the world outside of the United States. Nourish International has given me the opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and explore my passion for helping others while focusing on Public Health. I am ecstatic to work with Community Concerns Uganda on as many sustainable projects as we possible can.

Lynn Chan (Columbia University)

My name is Lynn Chan – a rising sophomore at Columbia University. I’m planning on majoring in architecture, focusing on sustainable architecture. I’m excited to work with CCUg this summer. I hope to learn a lot about the local culture and make a positive impact on distributing basic health knowledge.

Mohammad Khojah (Columbia University)

My name is Mohammad Khojah, a rising sophomore in the school of engineering at Columbia university.
I hail from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I am really excited to see developmental work on the field as I feel that it is going to enrich my life and preparative of the world.

Suzanne Normile (Penn State University)

My name is Suzanne Normile. I am currently a senior at Penn State University, pursuing a degree in Community Development. After studying abroad in South Africa, I became particularly interested in international affairs. By working with Community Concerns Uganda, my hope is to gain experience and solidify my future career ambitions. I am looking forward to the new-found knowledge I will gain while at the same time, working toward Nourish International’s goal is alleviating global poverty.
