Agua y Curriente

This past week has been momentous in terms of our project, and the Rice Project team’s impact on the city of Santa Cruz. After picking up all of the supplies we needed in Iquitos last weekend, we traveled to Santa Cruz every day this week with members of Project Amazonas slowly but surely improving the infrastructure and community throughout the week. On Monday we examined the water pumps, tanks, and pipes already existing in Santa Cruz, and identified precisely what needed to be repaired. Tuesday was spent cleaning up trash throughout the village, as well as installing the power inverter, breakers, and battery bank that were required to power the school. Wednesday morning, the water pipes near the river were replaced, and the new water pump installed. Thursday and Friday were both spent cleaning, and re-affixing the already existing water infrastructure, One pipe short from total water access, we hope to install the final piece, and have a fully watered and powered school by the time we leave next week. It was wonderful watching the principle already beginning to use the electricity to charge the laptops for the students. A very rewarding an successful week in all!
