Week 6: The End’s Not Near, It’s Here!

Hello Everyone 🙂 UF – UTK Project in India has come to an end. As we all go our separate direction, we have grown and learned together. Read some of the project teams reflections on the past 6 weeks.

As the last week of the internship approached, I couldn’t help it to feel heavyhearted. To have to think about leaving behind all the great memories I made here, but specially the great people I met, was something that I couldn’t really register. Our last week consisted of putting together the presentation of our project for the Sehgal Foundation staff members which thankfully was very successful presentation but nevertheless left me with a feeling of emptiness. Since the first week the goal was to make sure that we could complete our task to the best of our abilities as well as deliver a great presentation but after doing both things there was nothing to look forward to. Until this moment I can’t wrap my head around the fact that my two month stay in India has come to an end. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude to everyone who has made this trip an amazing one. From all the Sehgal Foundation staff members to every other person I met.  This experience has helped me to grow tremendously not only as a person, but also as a global leader. I will be forever thankful to this beautiful country for adopting me for two months and teaching me the greatness as well as for making my path cross with the lives of people like Vero and Nata, who have made a huge impact on my life.

There are so many things I could say to wrap up these six weeks. But, it would be unsettling to move on from this experience without acknowledging the importance of fostering positive and productive relationships with the people you work with. If it weren’t for the help and support of the Sehgal Foundation staff, we would not have been able to accomplish nearly as much as we have done during these six weeks. Same goes for our own Nourish team. Our ability to work efficiently, creatively and our ability to accept constructive criticism was essential in defining what our team was capable to achieving. Regardless of our differences (which there were many) our passion and dedication to the work we were doing and the people we were working with brought us together and allowed us to use our differences as an asset rather than a hindrance. Even outside of project specific engagement, we opened each others eyes to our different views of the world and different approaches to life. I will miss this team and I will miss the Sehgal Foundation staff because of the wonderful and unique bonds we were able to create. In the future, all the knowledge we have accumulated from each other and the challenges we experienced together will help us in future projects and life in general.

This is official our last day interning at the Sehgal Foundation. This experience has flew by, leaving behind such resonate and resounding impacts on all of our lives. It’s almost surreal to be leaving tomorrow because I can so vividly remember the first day we arrived. I could not be more appreciative of the people, experiences, and insight these last 6 weeks has offered. Working at Sehgal has played a definitive role in the growth of my professional and personal aspirations. My interest in sustainable development continues to evolve at a rapid and exceeding pace as I look forward to many more opportunities like this one. Although our time at Sehgal is over, we’re not done with India just yet. It’s hard to dwell on the end of a chapter when the next is full of travels and adventures. Next stop is to fly down south to Goa and Mumbai and discover what awaits us there.

After 6 weeks and months of planning the project has finally come to an end. We spent the last week completing our final presentation and presented to the Sehgal Foundation staff members. This is a bittersweet moment and I am sad to see it end but I am excited to see where this project goes in the coming year. I want to take this chance to thank everyone at the Sehgal Foundation. Everyone was so welcoming, helpful, and insightful and I am sad to have to say goodbye. I look forward to continue working with the Sehgal Foundation in the coming year as Projects Director and see how the implementation of the toilets in the communities and school continue and plan for the next project team. After 3 years working with the UF Nourish International Chapter it has been a life changing experience to have worked on a project. I can’t wait to see what the future holds but first Amritsar, Goa, and Mumbai!! Namaste Nourishers 🙂
