Ready to Go!

HELLO!
ONLY 3 DAYS UNTIL OUR DEPARTURE TO INDIA.

[Interjection] – This song comes to mind every time I think about packing so I figured I’d share: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xDf-_8KvGM

squirrel adventure

I am project leader of the UF chapter of a non-profit organization called Nourish International and this summer our project team has been given the opportunity to go to India for 6 weeks as interns for the S M Sehgal Foundation.
This year my chapter is continuing its partnership with Sehgal to help promote sanitation and hygiene education as well as implement the use of toilets and latrines in two rural villages in the Mewat District of India. By working with councils of women in these villages, we are not only helping provide safe and sanitary places for people to “do their business”, but also helping to empower these women to make a change in their own communities.
We have over $3300 going to our project (but are still accepting donations if you would like to contribute :))

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart to everyone who helped support us to make this project happen. You’re all awesometastic and greatly appreciated!
I’m so excited to be given this opportunity and can’t wait to meet our partners in person when we arrive.

We’ll be posting weekly with updates on our project so check in with us if you wish!

Here’s some fun (and maybe not so fun?) facts:
– India is the world’s largest democracy with about 1.3 billion people
– The second most populated country in the world (China is first), India makes up ~17.8% of the global population
– At India’s current growth rate, the UN predicts it will surpass China’s population size by 2022 (even though India is only about 1/3 the geographical size of China!)
– It’s illegal for foreigners to take Indian currency (rupees) out the country
– India supposedly has more mobile phones than toilets

See ya on the flip side,

Jacqueline “Jackie” B.
