Gabby, Diana, Or’el, and I (Regine) arrived late last night to Jinja, Uganda where we are staying with 2 host families, Maama Sarah and Julie. They are taking great care of us and making the transition as smooth as possible. Everyone is very friendly and we are all awed by Uganda’s beauty! We will begin our first day of working with Community Concerns Uganda (CCUg) tomorrow and we are eager to learn from Michael and Brenda, two of the founders. Everyone calls Or’el “Anbar” -which is his last name- because it is easier to pronounce. Speaking of pronunciation, we have also been learning a lot of Lusoga already! We can now say “thank you” “how are you” “the food is good” (which we use often), and “what is your name?”. So far we’ve eaten rolex (rolled eggs), chapati, matooke (which is kind of like mashed plantains), cow peas (which were so good!), spinach, and fried fish, and had a chance to visit the city on the motorcycles, which are called bodabodas. We are excited for the rest of the journey and we can’t wait for our next update next week. Wish us luck!
Love always,
Regine (Team Leader)
