Hi, my name is Amber Smith and I’m a rising senior majoring in Biological Sciences with minors in Spanish and chemistry at Pitt! My ultimate dream is to become a doctor and work throughout South America and the caribbean. I love hiking, traveling and experiencing new cultures. This summer I want to both improve my Spanish skills and completely immerse myself in the Guatemalan culture. I’m super excited for the adventure ahead!

Hey, I’m Rachel Rozak and I’m a soon-to-be junior at the University of Pittsburgh where I study Spanish and Marketing with a minor in Portuguese. When I’m not rooting for the Pittsburgh Pirates or trying out new brunch spots I love to travel and experience new things; as this will be my first time outside of the country I think this will easily be my biggest adventure yet! One day I hope to work on something very similar to what we will be doing on this trip – promoting sustainable grassroots nonprofits in Latin America, so it’s easy to see that I am so excited to learn everything I can in our next 6 weeks abroad. I can’t wait to meet the people in Panajachel and San Juan La Laguna so we can work on breaking down the walls we so often put up between those we don’t know.

Hi, my name is Emily Pembridge. I am an upcoming sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh, studying biology. I am hoping to go to vet school and would love to start my own animal rescue someday. I am from Jamestown, NY which is a small city in western New York State. I am very intrigued by different cultures and I’m excited to learn all that I can from the people of Guatemala. I hope to really challenge myself throughout this experience, and contribute what I can to all of the people that I meet.

Hi, my name is Claire Lion and I just recently completed my freshman year at the University of Pittsburgh. I am hoping to eventually major in sustainability studies with a minor in either economics or international studies. I have a passion for health, music, and my two dogs! I`m so excited for my trip to Guatemala because it is my first time going abroad and I cannot wait to immerse myself in the culture! I hope to do some awesome hiking, exploring, and get some awesome pictures.

Hi my name is Yeana Kwagh! I just finished my third year as an Environmental Studies major working to get a GIS Certification and a concentration of Sustainable Development in Latin America. I come from Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania where the most interesting thing to do is go to the mall or pay money to escape to another city for fun. I’m so excited to go to Guatemala and partner with Maya Traditions. Joining the Pitt Chapter of Nourish this year has given me such excitement and the chance to witness the real, tangible change I hope to see in the world. I cannot wait to be inspired by and learn from the Maya women we’ll be working with and the sustainable model that Maya Traditions upholds!
